A Short Story from the Chairman of RR Padang

Doing small thing to accept the biggest part of heart. Why can we come to this? Human beings have one thing in common; we ask ourselves, “Why are we here?” It’s a profound question, indeed. One theory is that the purpose of life is for each of us to make the world a better place. But how do we do this? What we have already conducted so far is a result of commitment. It all is started by doing small things. Yes. Small things. We are not hired yet by good payment. Commitment comes from within ourselves to start doing small things. That is what we apply in doing various activities as a big family of VDMS Padang. Do we speak the truth about this all? Let’s take a look of the small things we’ve accomplished so far.
On December, 16th 2015 we visited Special Need School 1 Pauh, Padang. This school educates children with physical & psychiatric disorders, emotional & behavioral problems, and learning disorders or disabilities. We played together and gave some gifts to the students. It wasn’t a big event. However, it was something good for the students. We saw their happiness coming from inside themselves. They kept smiling while we singing songs, reading poetry and doing many things together. We don’t see them as disabled students because they have everything just like we do.
Have you ever noticed and counted the benefits of planting fruit trees around houses schools, camps, and public places? At school courtyards for example, it creates an atmosphere of natural beauty and serenity. It is also obvious that students can harvest the fruits and enjoy it directly from the trees, sit under the trees while reading books or just hanging out with friends while enjoying the shade and cool breeze. Not only students, teachers can cook vegetables together and eat it together without buying. They just go to the courtyard of their school and pick the fresh vegetables. RR Padang did a small thing to make this big dream comes true. Wednesday, October 22nd, 2015 RR Padang held an event to get students involved in planting trees, fruits, and vegetable seeds as an environmental care at SD 37 Pagambiran, Padang. This is two of many activities we’ve done so far as a commitment to achieve a big dream which started from doing small things.
Cooperation between institutions
RR Padang reaches a wide range of cooperation with institutions, organizations, and communities in all fields in order to implement valuable activities leading to education, health, and the environment. There are many state institutions that cooperate with VDMS Padang such as Education Board, Forestry Board, Health Board, Youth, and Sports Board. In addition, RR Padang also has a good cooperation with some institutions and social community such as Time Language Center, Pascasarjana UNP, Earth Hour, Padang Berkebun, PKBM Ilmu Amaliah Padang, Melbourne English School, and many other communities.
