Greeting from Bogor! My name is Rizqy Fachria, people usually call me Yaya. I’m one of the VDMS grantees, who is currently studying Biochemistry in Institute Pertanian Bogor (Bogor Institute of Farming). Now, I’m starting a new eco-socio enterprise, called Wesure. We believe Wesure will solve the environmental problem we are facing right at the moment.
The idea
Wesure was established on 28 December 2015 and consists of 6 dedicated people so far. I’m in charge as the Processing Manager, Zahra Zaffira as the Finance and Administration, Ferisa Danesvaran as the Designer, Achmad Gus Fahmi as the Program Development, Khoirul Umam as the Public Relation and Shaugi Chasbullah as the IT Director.
The idea of creating this eco-socio enterprise was simple but unquestionably urgent. It is a sad fact that many rivers in Indonesia have become long dumpsters. People who lived along the rivers usually throw their garbage into the rivers. The reason why they do that is there is no Tempat Pembuangan Sampah Sementara (temporary dumpster/waste transfer station) around them. Thus, the fastest and easiest way to do is dump the trash into the rivers. Wesure is trying to solve this very problem. Our vision is to see a clean and eco-friendly Indonesia by establishing an integrated waste management system for this beloved nation.
Wesure at the Young Social Entrepreneur Competition 2016
One of the competitions that Wesure joined was the Young Social Entrepreneur held by the Singapore International Foundation. We were selected to join a workshop and present our project on March 2016. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to continue to the next stage of the competition. Nevertheless, we are still grateful for joining that program. Through this event Wesure learned how to make a good and sustainable socio enterprise and meet people from other countries that have the same dream to change the world.
We are also enrolling at Program Mahasiswa Wirausaha (Entrepreneur Students Program) at IPB and applying for other programs such as DBS-Nus Social Venture, iSOC, and Ganesha.
The Pilot Project
In order to accomplish our mission towards a better waste management system, we started by launching a pilot project: a garbage bank. We established a garbage bank in Cihideung Ilir Village, Darmaga, Bogor. The customers of this Garbage Bank can exchange their garbage with local vegetables or fruits. The vegetables and fruits provided are bought directly from the local farmers with a good price. The garbage that collected using this system is sorted into organic and inorganic categories. The inorganic waste then sold to the garbage collectors while the organic waste is used to produce organic fertilizer. This organic fertilizer then is used by the local farmers in the very village to replace synthetic fertilizers, which actually harmful to the quality of the soil and environment in general.
We are still maintaining the project because we believe that Wesure is currently trying not only helping farmers making good business and increasing their welfare but also
more importantly changing the habit of damaging the environment.
The Future Plan
The positive result of the pilot project en
couraged us to continue with a more advanced plan. We intend to build a simple machine to recycle plastic based on the blueprint designed by the Precious Plastic Team, which can be freely accessed at www.preciousplastic.com. The final products can be school or household utensils such as baskets, lamps, jars, vases, etc.
We are also thinking about buying the machine from PT Limbahagia instead of building one on our own based on several factors. Buying the machine would give us an opportunity to produce Ore plastic on a larger scale and we would be able to sell this raw material directly to PT Limbahagia.
Fund Raising
The challenge regarding our goal is funding. In the following months we hope to collect some fund by joining more competitions, establishing cooperation with various companies and government, and finding potential investors who have the same concern as ours.
We will use the fund to materialize our future project of building a machine to recycle plastic or buying one from PT Limbahagia.
