The sustainable program “BIG BANG” for VDMS Alumni had been continues in this month. 8 RRs prepare for it and the meeting has been done.
We hope every RR has a great enthusiasms from VDMS grantees and alumni to this program like in Padang.
This program talk about the invitation of the grantees to join the RR is: team work on time. And the logic behind the support of VDMS for the activities of the RR is that it can be seen as a logical extension of the scholarships: we want them to acquire practical skills and knowledge which add value to their academic education, while building the basis for the alumni support network.
The goal of the Alumni Association is to establish a nationwide support network to enhance their chances in the job market.
The strategy is to build the alumni support network: bottom up, from the beginning of your relationship with VDM. That means from the time that the students have become a VDMS grantee. Because that gives all of them to know each other before join with the alumni association. It is done by meeting and by organizing and executing events together, with the help of alumni, PIC’s and the VDMS office in Jogjakarta.
We going to do together because sensible projects, which will teach you skills, in demand by any employer and very useful as well if you decide to become your own boss. You learn to organize, work as a team, get to know the problems of others, device solutions for problems, get to know how society works, or fails to work, for individuals and certain groups. The knowledge and skills you will benefit from during the rest of your life.
By joining the RR, grantees get a chance to build on their own future by developing useful skills and knowledge for their (professional) life through teamwork in organizing and executing social and educational events. By doing that, they get to know themselves and their fellow grantees well, thereby building solid relationships, which form the basis for a strong and effective alumni support network. Planning for next activities
- Regular meeting 2x a month provided with soft skills training for English, Computer, Career plan and entrepreneurship. Starting?
- Vertikultura – to be implemented around December 2015 or January 2016 (no exact date yet).
- Mini-gathering between grantees and alumni around Jatinangor/Bandung
- Group discussion – informal environment for updating the issue
- Seminar/workshop. Inviting Alumni and representative of the company to hold a seminar/workshop. The topics should be selected based on participants (grantees/alumni) needs.
- Implementation Plan. To implement the action plan of RR Jabodetabek especially East Java – which is the goal is to help people needs to applied our skills we have
- Garbage Bank of Street Children
RR Makasar
Planning for next activities
- Focus in education program. That is the “transformation” of the school library and yard. The opening of book donation will be publicly announced next week after Big Bang Alumni Meeting (around October 24, 2015)
- Planning to deliver holistic contribution which concerns on public health care, creative handy craft making from waste recycling, gardening (growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables), cultural education and other crucial fields to assist the local society development.

Plan for next Activity:
- Coral Saving Society
- Visits to orphanages and nursing home
- Cleaning Service
- Make the litter box in Merdeka market

- Greening (Tree Planting)
- Educate children in the street to reading and calculate
- First meeting after Big Bang at 24th October 2015 (have done)

RR Surabaya
Plan for next Activity:
- Instance socialization of healthy life to elementary school students as well as of using sanitary water efficiently and effectively,
- Socialization of internet sehat (internet for health)
- Maximizing social communities.
- Reusing used papers (articles, journals, etc) to be notes/ notebook,
- Socialization on designing the used papers cover and make a competition on it
- Initiated to tell people stop using more plastic bottles (mineral water, flavor water, soda, etc).
- Provide free medical check-up for veterans on 10th November 2015
- Share milk to unlucky children who live on the road on 1 June 2016
- Other activities are socializations on the dangerous of drugs to senior high school students, electricity installation to elementary until junior high school students, natural resources to replace the electricity, and environmental care awareness.
- Contributions from alumni every month is Rp. 10.000,- and grantees every month is Rp. 5.000,-
RR Yogyakarta

- Sharing Rice for child scavengers (once only or will be sustainable?)
- Give training to the children in primary school, How to wash hands properly?
- Cleaning the river
- Give motivation to children in certain areas
- Enabling garbage bank system
- Visit to Dream House children
