Living without parents makes the orphans can be socially and economically deprived. They might face a number of challenges such as limited access to basic health care including oral health care.

This phenomenon motivated RR Padang to conduct a Dental Hygiene program in Al Falah orphanage, Parupuk Tabing Padang on Saturday (30/4). The mission was to give dental health education for the children starting from  teeth cleanings and fluoride treatments to basic self-care education. The program was guided by Intan Purnamasari, VDMS alumnus who is studying at Faculty of Dentistry, Andalas University.

On a medical mission to Al Falah, we were completely taken back by the dental conditions in children as young as age 6 to 12. All the things given to the children in this program are only to make sure that they can have a healthy life. The care and education given to these children are so important and we need to participate in helping them. Not only educating them, we also shared our experience and give some presents to the orphans.

About 5 alumni and 13 grantees from three different universities participated in this program. (State University of Padang, Bung Hatta University and Andalas University).
