Last April, Alumni Association of VDMS, RR Central Java – Yogyakarta had held Sunday Morning with Our Traditional Games (Amoria) event that took place in Merapi Permanent Shelter. In Amoria, we involved the children to play traditional games together for having activities to laugh and play happily. As we know, Merapi eruption occurred in 2010 had caused children to have a feeling of deep grief and trauma. Regarding to the matter above, we again chose the same place because children at Merapi Permanent Shelter need to develop their EQ (Emotional Quotient) through a happy and fun activity.
EQ is the ability to receive, assess, manage, and control their emotions and relations around them. Developing children’s EQ is an important life skill for them to deal with their society and environment. They can be more attentive to learning, feeling good about themselves, having more friends and being able to better control their behavior. These all relate to long-term happiness and success in life as children grow older.
Therefore, we want to facilitate the development of the children’s EQ at Merapi Permanent Shelter through performing arts named “Drama Musical: Mentari Pagi”. This activity is chosen because through performing arts children are expected learning to be more confident, work in teams, be discipline, and have the ability to compete as well as improving their talents. This activity will take around eight weeks consisting of the introduction, rehearsals and performance. RR Central Java – Yogyakarta also plans to perform in the Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY), and hopes the children can be more optimistic and have positive outward looking engaging the activity as they will perform in front of crowd.
RESULT / OUTPUT
After participating in this activity:
- Alumni can have empathy that there are many things to do to help other people, and encourage alumni to engage in other RR activities.
- Children of Merapi Permanent Shelter can have activities to encourage themselves and activate their Emotional Quotient (EQ).
