Kupang, 22 September 2013, the regional representative Kupang held One Day TOEFL Learning and Sharing: TOEFL tips and trick. The purposes are to strengthen English Language skill of alumni and alumni candidates, preparing the alumni and alumni candidates to face the TOEFL test, strengthen the relationship between alumni and alumni candidates among universities.
To succeed this event, the regional representative Kupang does not stand alone but collaborates with LP3I Course center Sudirman Kupang as one of course centers in Kupang. They have much experience in giving courses and training in education field for the public society, students and teachers in Kupang. Mr. Enos Kabu, S.Sos, M.Ec is the speaker prepared by LP3I. He also is a lecturer in Politeknik Negeri Kupang.
This event was opened with a prayer by Ms. Hilda, a grantees from Uyelindo University, then committee report by Nofri Daniel as the chairman of event and then opening speech by Mr. Theodorus Suban as PIC from Uyelindo University.
This event took place at Uyelindo University and attended by 43 participants consists of a PIC, 34 alumni candidates, 7 alumni, a speaker from LP3I and the chairman of LP3I.
Before starting the TOEFL tips and trick, Mr. Enos shared his experiences to the participants, as one of awarded the Australian Awards Scholarship, he explained why TOEFL important in occupation and education even TOEFL is usually used as a pre-requisite test before registering for universities, applying for scholarships, or even applying for jobs.
The participants from university recipient of VDMS (UNIKA, UKAW, UNDANA, UYELINDO) followed seriously this event that divided by three sessions that based on the number of sessions in paper based of TOEFL test (listening, written and structure, and reading).
At 1 o’clock, time to break and have lunch.
After have lunch, the participant look tired and sleepy, so before continuing, Ms. Noy as the chairperson of Alumni Association Regional Representative Kupang leaded the brain games. The purpose of this session is restoring the focus and passion of the participants during all session of this event.
Furthermore, the participants were given question sheets to be done, for listening the participants heard the conversation from tape recorder and chose the correct answer. Some participants were seriously discussing to answer question of reading. Saltini Karolina, one of the grantees from UNIKA said “to answer the reading question need accuracy and understanding of the meaning of every word before answering”. Then, Mr. Enos began to discuss and provide the answers of each question, many participants seem happy because they answered them correctly.
Because the remaining time, the event was taken over by Mr. Yan Pietono as the chairman of LP3I, he leaded the brain games; same activities like before and give motivation to the participants.
Ending of this event is discussing among the participant about the planning of Mr. Onno’s coming to Kupang to visit alumni tree and the mangrove that planted before.
