Sunday, December 3 2023, as usual, Kupang alumni and grantees are doing activities at Taman Baca Oesapa. They carry out community service by simulating mathematics learning media to improve children’s numeracy skills. Elementary school children are the targets of this activity.

San Pedro University students, Kupang introduce themselves to children

The activity started with a group prayer, followed by introductions with the San Pedro students, then singing together before dividing into groups. Children are divided into 4 groups using counting methods. Each group was accompanied by several San Pedro students, grantees and VDMI alumni. In each group, they were demonstrated how to add and subtract numbers, and do multiplication using the props provided. Each child was given the opportunity to try out the props based on instructions and questions from the San Pedro students.

The children really enjoyed this activity, as seen by their very high enthusiasm in answering and practicing using the props. After the activities in each group ended, it was continued with a quiz with prizes. Everyone gathered again and took a quiz, then continued with singing and praying together. At the end of the activity, we visited and cleaned the mangrove planting location which had been planted a month ago.
