As one of VDMS’ objectives is to have a good relationship with and among its students, and to build the students’ capacity for the future, aRegional Meeting is one of ways to provide for that .
The Theme of the program was “Preparing for your society: Making Your Own Career”. It was a one-day seminar program, especially designed for VDMS Scholars to strengthen their skills in order to meet the requirements in the future job market. Besides, by joining this program students could experience the opportunities of open networking.
During the Regional Meeting program, there were two valuable main topics:
- “Know Yourself – Goal Setting and Career Plan”
In this topic, students got information on how to set goals, and were helped to analyze the talents they have for planning their career. Click CAREER PLAN (Pak Ibnu Materi) to download.
- “Selling Yourself – Portfolio Making, Tips and Interviewing Tricks
In this session, students got information about how to make an effective and good portfolio as one of the tools to “sell” the capability they have to the Employer or in the society. Click SELL YOURSELF HANDOUT to download.
This 11th Regional Meeting was held in the Campus of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember – Surabaya, was attended by 81 VDMS scholars and Alumni in East Java (ITS, Airlangga, Wijaya Kusuma, Hang Tuah, Petra and Ma Chung), on the 5th of June 2013.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
- “Know yourself – Goal Setting and Career Plan” – delivered by Ir. Ibnu Suryana. Ibnu Suryana is a practical speaker who has a lot of experience in the real world. He graduated from one of the industrial institutes in Yogyakarta, and started his career as a driver of a famous celebrity. He did the job sincerely and always did “his best” (not ‘the best”) whatever the kind of job. Later on, he became a Director in Citibank, and thereafter he became a consultant to “Bob Sadino”, a reputable entrepreneur in Indonesia. At present, he is a “recruitment consultant” in several reputable banks in Indonesia.
- “Selling Yourself – Portfolio Making, Tips and Tricks of interviewing” – delivered by Dwiani Fegda, MPsi. As a good psychologist Dwiani Fegda got her Masters degree in the University of Indonesia. She is a practical speaker who has a lot of experience in the recruitment process, especially in John Robert Powel and several big companies in Indonesia, both social and commercial institutions.

The key to your success is your “performance”. Several factors of performance are attitude, skills (know how) and knowledge (competency). - “Selling yourself – Portfolio making, Tips and interviewing Tricks”
The Success key in job interviews is “confidence communication” by mastering your interpersonal skills. Be open, and just the way you are. You must shape yourself as a good communicator with high confidence, to explore your skills without being arrogant; build your character and habit. So, before it’s too late, start NOW to: open your ears, open your mind, gain your knowledge, and keep in communication with people. By keeping in communication with people, you will be “used to” in facing the interview. The interview is one of the most important parts of the selection process to get the job. During this Regional Meeting, many students got at least 10 new connections within the universities and faculties. By attending this Regional Meeting a lot of information was provided to the VDMS Scholars.
