Garbage is one of the endless problems to be discussed. RR Padang tried to instill waste management from an early age to children at Rumah Baca Kampung Tanjung (Reading House), Kec. Kuranji, Kota Padang. They involved with various activities. The children were asked to collect used waste materials such as plastic pipettes, glasses and bottles of mineral water, and used cardboard. On April 1, 2019, RR Padang Grantees and children of Rumah Baca Kampung Tanjung changed the used waste materials into handicrafts.
11 children tried making flowers from plastic pipettes, made hanging flowers from drink cups, made pots from mineral water bottles, and used cardboard tissue boxes. Children are very enthusiastic to do so. In addition, grantees also provide knowledge of the art of folding “origami” paper.
This activity aims to improve children’s insight by not littering but in reverse, processing waste into useful crafts. Besides that, it is also one way to reduce environmental pollution
